Trump threatens Colombia’s Petro, warns Mexico ‘to get their act together’
President Donald Trump has suggested potential US military action against Colombia and warned Mexico to get its act together. He also reiterated a threat to send the military back to Venezuela if, in his words, it doesn’t behave. His comments come a day after American forces captured and detained Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in a surprise attack on Caracas.
Maduro and his wife are due to appear in court on drug-related charges in New York later on Monday. Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Trump insisted the US is “in charge” of Venezuela, even though the country’s Supreme Court has appointed the vice president as interim leader. Trump also suggested Colombia could face military action unless it curbs the flow of illicit drugs to the United States.
