Ms Irène RABENORO has been the Acting Chief of the Section for Higher Education (ED/PLS/HED) at UNESCO Headquarters since 1 June 2015. She obtained a “Licence ès-Lettres” (English) from the University of Madagascar. She also holds a « Maîtrise ès-Lettres» (English-French translation), a “DEA de Linguistique” and a “Doctorat d’Etat ès-Lettres et Sciences humaines” from Université Paris 7-Denis Diderot. As lecturer and then professor, Ms Rabenoro held several positions in the University of Antananarivo (Madagascar) including that of vice-president of the university in charge of international relations, training and research. She served as adviser for education to the Prime Minister of Madagascar and was Ambassador/Permanent Delegate of Madagascar to UNESCO in Paris. Before taking up the post at Headquarters, Ms Rabenoro worked as Senior Programme Specialist with UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (IICBA) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for two years.
