Air India sold to Tata Group for 18,000 crore

The Maharaja has come back home. Tata Group has bought India’s flag carrier Air India for 18,000 crore Rupees.

Tata Sons has won the bid for Air India, the airline has been sold for Rs 18,000 crore. Air India has returned to the Tata fold after 68 years after starting as Tata Air Services in 1932. Tata will take on Rs 15,300 crore of debt and the government will get Rs 2,700 crore in cash from the sale.

Large amounts of money in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal are often written in terms of crore. For example, 150,000,000 (one hundred and fifty million) is written as « fifteen crore rupees« , « 15 crore » or « Rs 15 crore ».[1] In the abbreviated form, usage such as « ₹15cr » (for « 15 crore rupees ») is common.[2]
