Brazil’s Lula says he will call India, China to discuss Trump tariffs with BRICS group: media report

As US tariffs on Brazilian goods jumped to 50 percent on Wednesday, Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva told Reuters in an interview that he saw no room for direct talks now with US President Donald Trump, which would otherwise likely be a « humiliation. »
Brazil is not about to announce reciprocal tariffs, he said. Nor will his government give up on cabinet-level talks. But Lula himself is in no rush to ring the White House, Reuters reported on Wednesday.
« The day my intuition says Trump is ready to talk, I won’t hesitate to call him, » Lula was quoted as saying in the Reuters’ interview from his presidential residence in Brasilia. « But today my intuition says he doesn’t want to talk. And I won’t humiliate myself. »
Lula also revealed in the interview with Reuters that he plans to call the leaders of India and China to discuss a joint BRICS response to tariffs on US imports imposed by Trump.
« What President Trump is doing is tacit — he wants to dismantle multilateralism, where agreements are made collectively within institutions, and replace it with unilateralism, where he negotiates one-on-one with other countries, » Lula said.
« I’m going to try to discuss with them about how each one is doing in this situation, what the implications are for each country, so we can make a decision, » he was quoted as saying in the Reuters’ report. « It’s important to remember that the BRICS have ten countries at the G20, » he added, referring to the group that gathers 20 of the world’s biggest economies, Reuters said.
Brazil requested consultations at the World Trade Organization (WTO) over 50 percent of tariff imposed by the US against the South American nation that went into effect on Wednesday, the AP reported.
« The US has flagrantly violated key commitments the country has agreed upon at the WTO, such as the principle of the most favored nation and tariff ceilings negotiated at that organization, » Brazil’s foreign ministry said in a statement, per the AP.
During a meeting of the Council for Sustainable Economic and Social Development held in Brasilia on Tuesday, Lula depicted the US trade move as « unjust » and highlighted Brazil’s progress on the international stage, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
Brazil will respond to a steep tariff increase imposed by the US with a contingency plan and take its case to the WTO, Lula said Tuesday, Xinhua said.
Brazil’s government estimates that 35.9 percent of the country’s goods shipped to the American market have been affected. That is about 4 percent of Brazil’s total exports, according to the AP.
Trump unveiled the current tariff rate on July 9, in a letter addressed to Lula and published online, the Al Jazeera said.
Unlike other tariff-related letters at the time, Trump used the correspondence to criticize the Brazilian government for its decision to prosecute Bolsonaro over an alleged coup attempt, according to the Al Jazeera.

This is the REAL source of Ambani’s unlimited Wealth
How did Mukesh Ambani become so rich? Where does he get all this money from?
You probably know that his wealth is tied to his company Reliance Industries, but how big is this company?
Many people think Ambani’s wealth is because of Reliance Jio – the largest telecom operator in India that is also owned by Mukesh Ambani, while others think that it is because of Reliance Retail and its Smart Bazaar outlets.
But all of them are wrong – Reliance’s telecom business is not the majority contributor to their total profits, and Reliance Retail is even smaller.
Where did Mukesh Ambani get all this money from?
Well, the source is an unlimited pit of money – a pit of money so deep that you could not spend all of it even if you spent your entire lifetime. And that ultimate source of Ambani’s wealth is the Jamnagar Refinery.
So when was this refinery established and who built it? How did an Indian manage to build the biggest crude oil refinery in the world? Why exactly did the Ambanis get into the refinery business in the first place?

Putin Vs Biden-Led West Over Ukraine: How India Will Be Impacted If The Crisis Leads To War
As tensions between the West & Russia escalate over the Ukraine crisis, India is keeping a close eye on developments. While India cannot do much to influence the events, New Delhi is certain to be impacted if the crisis worsens. Experts say that a conflict in Europe will create geopolitical waves that will come crashing on Indian shores.
An escalation of the Ukraine crisis will put India’s delicate balancing act with US & Russia in jeopardy. A Russian invasion of Ukraine and a subsequent rupture of ties with the US could lead to pressure on India to choose sides.

China and India should aim to safeguard world order along with multilateralism
China and India believe in reforming not revolutionizing the current world order, which both countries should aim to safeguard along with multilateralism, a forum held in Beijing recently heard.

« The existing international mechanism failed to address the current challenges, » Ye Hailin, deputy director-general at National Institute of International Strategy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) said at the recent 4th India-China Think Tank Forum.
Co-hosted by the CASS and the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), the forum attracted nearly 150 scholars and representatives of political parties and think tanks from China and India.
« It is mainly because the supporting or dominant power of the current world system has lost the capacity and intention to maintain the stability of the world order, rather it only cares about its own interests, » Ye stated at the forum.
Ye noted that emerging powers, such as China and India, do not want to tear down or make fundamental changes to the current world order.
Reform, not revolution
« They are reformers not revolutionists, » said Ye, explaining that « China and India want to bring some adjustments to the current world order and resolve international issues through bilateral or multilateral negotiations rather than using force to seek a zero-sum game. »
S.K. Mohanty, professor at the Research and Information System for Developing Countries, also agrees that both China and the US are needed for engagement in changing the rules for global socioeconomic architecture.
« Present collaboration in terms of looking into each other’s sensitivities would be more beneficial when they cooperate to emerge as a pressure group in the world, » said Mohanty.
« China and India can work together in several regional agreements, such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Eurasian Economic Union. »
Regional integration
Jayan Jose Thomas, associate professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, thinks that China’s development experience, which is not characterized by blind faith in the power of the markets, has thrown a serious challenge to mainstream ideas of economic growth that evolved mostly in Western Europe and North America.
« China is emerging as a leader in new technologies: telecommunications, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and electric vehicles, » he noted.
